MOBERLY, Mo. – If the desire to take your family fishing is strong, but your experience is weak, don’t be discouraged. You can have plenty of fun by sticking to the basics.
Families can learn about the fundamentals of fishing at a free Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) program series offered every Thursday evening in May at the James Youth Center in Moberly’s Rothwell Park. This Discover Nature Fishing clinic consists of four units that build fishing knowledge from the basics to more advanced lessons. Each participant must attend every class session as they advance through all four.
The first session will be held Thursday, May 5 from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. and every Thursday evening after at the same time.

The four classes will cover fishing fundamentals, equipment, techniques, fish species, regulations, and how to prepare fish for the dinner table or how to release them.
The programs will also feature a hands-on component where participants will partake in catch-and-release fishing at the Rothwell Park lake. Participants should dress for the weather and bring their own snacks or drinks. MDC will provide all equipment, bait, and tackle, but people may bring their own.
All participants ages 16-years and older must have a valid Missouri fishing license and all participants ages 16-years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
