St. Peters, Mo. — After a state-wide call for nominations, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has selected a Colorado spruce (Picea pungens) in St. Peters to be the official Christmas tree at the Governor’s mansion in Missouri’s Capitol City. The tree will be cut Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 9 a.m.
The tree is located on the Carrera residence, 37 Jane Drive in St. Peters and was nominated for the honor by the Carreras. After removal, the tree will be professionally decorated and displayed in front of the Governor’s mansion in Jefferson City. This will be an excellent opportunity to gather photos and video footage of the cutting.
It’s a long-standing annual tradition for MDC to supply the official Christmas tree displayed in front of the Governor’s mansion. Each fall, MDC issues a state-wide call for interested property and homeowners to nominate a tree from their property, perhaps one that needs to be removed for home expansion or utility work. The owner must be willing to donate the tree at no cost to the state or MDC. MDC Forestry staff reviews all entries and selects the winning tree. The tree is then removed at no charge to the owner and delivered to Jefferson City.
