CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation says Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to celebrate a love of nature. Several upcoming events at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center are perfect for celebrating the love-centered holiday.

Tuesday, Feb. 14, children three to six years old can attend Mudpuppies: Valentines For the Birds, either at 9 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Children will make treats for the birds and a valentine to take home at this one hour event. Parents should reserve their child’s seat for this program by Saturday, Feb. 11.

Ages 12 and up are welcome to build a bird house at the nature center Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. Providing shelter for wildlife is one of the best ways to show some love, according to Sara Turner, nature center manager. Reservations for this program should be made by Feb. 17.

Outdoor Family Fun is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. The whole family can participate in hiking, animal tracking, outdoor cooking and more. No reservations are needed for this program.

“These events all present a perfect way to celebrate the Valentine’s Day spirit,” Turner said. “We hope families will participate and learn some skills they can continue to use throughout the year.”
