WILDWOOD, Mo.—Although the Glencoe Road bridge construction on the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Rockwoods Reservation in Wildwood is nearing completion, the City of Wildwood is now beginning another construction project involving the bridge immediately west of Route 109 at the Woods Road entrance to Rockwoods.
The new project will replace the existing bridge with an improved structure consisting of two 12 foot driving lanes with an 8 foot bike/pedestrian lane. A concrete barrier will separate the bike/pedestrian lane from the driving lanes. Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 8, or as soon as weather permits.
The City’s contractor anticipates completing the work by Aug. 15, depending on weather conditions. The bridge location will be closed to all traffic during this time, so access to most of Rockwoods from Highway 109 will require taking a detour. Detour signs and other advance warning signs will inform motorists about the construction during the project.
To reach Rockwoods during construction, visitors should turn west from Highway 109 onto Manchester Road north of the area. Go 1.3 miles west on Manchester, and then turn south onto Glencoe Road immediately northwest of Rockwoods Reservation and proceed to the area. The Rockwoods Reservation entrance off Manchester Road and Glencoe Road will remain open during the Woods Road closure.
Visitors should note they will still be able to access the area’s Turkey Ridge Trail parking lot just east of Highway 109 during construction.
