JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) opens its doors at Runge Nature Center in Jefferson City for the holidays. A long-standing tradition, the nature center will offer Holiday Happenings between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day for families and friends to gather and connect with nature.

Holiday Happenings 2017 will take place from 10 a.m. – 3p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29.

This year’s theme, Home Sweet Home, will focus on wild excavators, constructors, and refurbishers. Come home to Runge for this annual event and explore how wild animals choose, build, and use their homes through crafts, activities, and more.

Visitors are welcome to walk in during the free, family-friendly event and move between activity stations.  The events offer games, crafts, nature walks, stories, music, and much more.  Enjoy a walk on any of the five nature trails at Runge, and then warm up inside by the fireplace.

Runge Nature Center is located on Hwy 179 in Jefferson City, approximately a half-mile north of Hwy 50.  Building hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursday.  The building is closed on Sunday and Monday.  The outdoor trails are open from 6 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily.
