HIGH RIDGE, Mo.—The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Jay Henges Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center is now operating under its fall/winter schedule.  Now through March 3, the range is open Wednesday through Sunday 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.  Henges is closed Monday and Tuesday for routine maintenance and special group use.

As fall approaches, this is the perfect time to visit the range to sight in firearms for upcoming hunting seasons and avoid late-season waits.

“With the cooler weather, we are already starting to experience a higher volume of shooters,” said Jay Henges Manager Terry Bertholomey.   “Shooters can beat the deer season sight in rush by visiting us earlier rather than last minute.”

At only three dollars per hour, MDC staffed shooting ranges like Henges offer shooters a very economical and safe means to sight in firearms and hone their shooting skills.  Paper targets and basic ear protection are both included in the fee.

The Jay Henges Shooting Range features a fully-baffled rifle/pistol range with targets out to 100 yards to assist deer hunters in preparing for the firearms season.  Upland bird and waterfowl hunters, plus fall turkey enthusiasts, will want to take advantage of Henge’s shotgun patterning range to fine tune their shotgun technique and help select the right chokes.

Recreational trap shooters will enjoy the range’s trap fields which include wheelchair-accessible shooting stations.  The three-dollar-per-round use fee also includes 25 clay targets.

Finally, archery and crossbow shooters can take advantage of static archery range that consists of four target butts at 10, 20, 25, and 30 yards.  The range does not accommodate broadhead or cutting type tips.

The Jay Henges Outdoor Education Center regularly holds classes that help hunters, shooters, and other outdoor enthusiasts expand and improve their skills.  For an up-to-date list of offerings, go to https://goo.gl/bywCTP.
