IRON COUNTY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) welcomes Brian Maddox as the new resource forester for Iron County. MDC resource foresters plan and manage forests and forest resources for public and private use. They protect conservation areas, enhance habitats for wildlife, facilitate public recreation and manage fire on the landscape. They are forest experts who help manage conservation areas while balancing the needs of the forest with recreation opportunities and public use.
“We welcome Brian to the area and we’re confident his forestry experience will be an asset to MDC and to Iron County,” said Rocky Hayes, MDC’s forestry regional supervisor.
Maddox received his Bachelor’s degree in Forestry from the University of Arkansas-Monticello in 2009. While in college, he worked as a Forest Technician for the USDA-Forest Service and also for the University of Arkansas. After receiving his BS, Brian worked five years for the Arkansas Forestry Commission. In March 2014 he went to work for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Having worked for multiple agencies, Brian comes to MDC with a diverse work background and is well versed in public and private land management.
He and his wife, Lisa, are native Missourians having grown up in nearby Desoto.
“We’re pleased to see his career path has brought him back to Missouri and Ironton,” Hayes said.
