BRANSON, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) wants to know what Missourians think about its nearly 1,000 conservation areas around the state. The management plan for the Ruth and Paul Henning Conservation Area in Taney County is open for public review in February.
MDC invites comments from recreational users, neighboring landowners, conservation groups, elected officials, government agencies and other interested persons or groups. Citizens will be able to comment on the Henning Area plan Feb. 1-28. To make a comment on this area plan, go to mdc.mo.gov/areaplans.
The 1,534-acre Ruth and Paul Henning Conservation Area is located on Missouri Highway 76 on the west side of Branson in Taney County. The landscape consists of forested hills interspersed with a series of glades (open desert-like areas). These glades make up the White River Balds Natural Area, a designated natural area that lies within the boundaries of the Henning Area. Roark Creek crosses the northeast corner of the Henning Area.
The Henning Area offers hiking opportunities on 5.6 miles of established trails traversing several features immortalized in the Harold Bell Wright 1907 classic “The Shepherd of the Hills.”
