MACON, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a training session in Macon to prepare new volunteers to lead Discover Nature Fishing programs. The instructor training will take place Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., at Tri-County Christian School, 604 HBC Road. Participants are encouraged to bring a notebook, a writing utensil, and a lunch, if desired.

MDC offers this free training for anyone age 14-years or older who is passionate about educating youth. In the training, participants will learn about the Discover Nature Fishing curriculum, how to teach each lesson, and the materials and teaching tools offered by the Department.

“Volunteers are a vital part of the Discover Nature Fishing program,” said MDC Angler Education Assistant Chelsea Clever. “Without them we wouldn’t be able to offer the variety of topics we present in the program. The classes are also a great way for volunteers to connect with kids and families in their community. When a volunteer can help instill new skills and values in today’s youth, they are changing the future of fishing in Missouri for the greater good.”

MDC’s Discover Nature Fishing Program helps Missourians of all ages gain the skills and confidence to go fishing on their own. The Department relies on experienced anglers in northeast Missouri to help kids and families learn fishing skills that can help foster a lifetime of enjoyment and appreciation for Missouri’s outdoors.

Anyone interested in attending this training must preregister before 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8. To sign up for this training, visit mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/152029. For more information, call (573) 248-2530.
