COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources (CAFNR), City of Columbia, and Missourians for Monarchs invite all ages to a free, family-friendly tour of pollinator habitat around Columbia on Thursday, June 20.
The tour will begin and end at the Butterfly House at Jefferson Farm & Garden with shuttle buses provided to visit other locations throughout the evening, including Bonnie View Prairie, A.L. Gustin Golf Course, and the University of Missouri’s (MU) South Farm.
Participants should arrive at Jefferson Farm & Garden at 5:30 p.m. Shuttle buses will leave shortly thereafter to visit pollinator habitat destinations around Columbia, and will return to Jefferson Farm where the event will conclude by 8:45 p.m.
Destinations on the Boone County Pollinator Tour will offer glimpses at different types of pollinator habitat around Columbia. Participants will learn about the biology and valuable services provided by a variety of pollinator species, as well has how to maintain habitat for these insects and animals in different land-use settings.
“This tour will provide a great opportunity to learn about pollinators,” said MDC Landowner Services Manager Kristen Goodrich. “The tour will showcase some things going on to provide pollinator habitat in Boone County, and participants will learn what they can do for monarchs and other pollinators in their own backyards.”
