St. CHARLES, Mo.—Explore the fascinating world of fish by viewing and drawing them without even getting wet.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is presenting a unique nature journaling program, Journaling and Sketching Missouri Fish, Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area.
Explore our state’s many, diverse fish up close as MDC Naturalist Matt Ormsby shares his stunning photography of Missouri fish. Participants will investigate a range of fish, from the small, colorful darters that look like pieces of rare jewelry, to some of Missouri’s larger game fish. Opportunities to journal and sketch will include working with mounts of fish and recording observations of live fish in two large display tanks.
The program will take place in the visitor center and participants should bring journaling materials like paper, pencil, and a small camp chair to work in front of the fish tanks.
Journaling and Sketching Missouri Fish is free and open to adults, but advanced reservations are required. To make reservations, call August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area at: 636-441-4554. The reservation period opens Sept. 22. Beginners, and both non-artists and artists, are all welcome.
The August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area is located at 2360 Highway D, approximately two miles west of Highway 94.
