St. CHARLES, Mo—Being outdoors in nature is a wonderful way to spend a day.  Nature journaling is an excellent way to keep memories of those days.  It also helps one grow and learn as a naturalist.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering a Nature Journaling Program at the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area in St. Charles Wednesday, March 8 from 9-11:30 a.m.  The program is free and open to adults.  Trained MDC volunteer naturalists will provide guidance for using doodles, sketches, and writing to help create interesting and informative journal pages.  Emphasis will also be given on improving observational skills to help participants gather useful and interesting content for their journals.

Participants will explore the diversity of habitats and wildlife at the conservation area through nature journaling.  The group will visit various lakes, prairies, and forested areas.  Migratory ducks should be on some of the lakes, and binoculars and spotting scopes will help with some up close observations.  Naturalists will provide tips and short lessons on nature journaling along the way.  The program welcomes beginners, and both non-artists, and artists.  In the event of inclement weather, activities will be held indoors by using duck mounts.

Participants should come dressed for outdoor activity and bring journaling materials like paper and pencil, binoculars (pairs will also be available for loan on a first-come basis).  The program will meet at the Aiden Hampton Refuge Lake board walk at 9:00 a.m., and carpool from there.  Destinations will include a walk on the Pine Trail and some of the area lakes.

Advanced registration is required to attend.  To register or get more information, call 636-441-4554.  The August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area is located at 2360 Highway D, approximately two miles west of Highway 94.
