Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free Youth Air Rifle training session from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, at the Parma Woods Shooting Range near Parkville. Air rifles are a good way for newcomers to learn firearms safety and shooting skills. This course will cover basic techniques, and MDC will provide the air rifles and equipment. The class is open to youths ages 8 to 15.

“The virtual lack of recoil and relatively quiet discharge of an air rifle creates a good environment where a new shooter can learn to focus on the fundamentals of shooting,” said Nathan Woodland, Parma Woods manager.

Instructors will discuss the different types of air rifles, fundamentals of shooting, and safety. Participants will then get to do some target shooting on the range with assistance from instructors.

Registration is required. COVID-19 safety precautions will be observed. To register, visit https://short.mdc.mo.gov/4wh.
