Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold two free upcoming classes at the Parma Woods Shooting Range at Parkville to connect people with what nature provides, specifically white-tailed deer.
Learn how to hunt shed deer antlers from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 25. Bucks shed their antlers in mid or late winter. Tromping through the woods and fields to look for them is a fine way to enjoy the outdoors in winter. MDC instructors will talk about deer biology and provide tips on looking for sheds. Then the class will head outdoors at the range’s forested hills and look for sheds. The class is open to all ages. COVID-19 safety precautions will be observed. Registration is required. The Parma Woods staff will teach a class on making sausage and jerky from wild game meat from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Sausage making, for example, is a great way to make use of less tender cuts of venison. MDC staff will demonstrate the tools needed and talk about spices, recipes, and basic techniques.
