Carrollton, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and Quail Forever will offer a free workshop on Saturday, Oct. 19 for landowners who wish to boost bobwhite quail on their property. The workshop will be held at the Joe Goetting farm northwest of Bogard.

The workshop will start with a covey count at 6:45 a.m. This will teach landowners how to estimate quail numbers on a property. Participants are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to learn protocols for the covey count.

A sausage, biscuit, and gravy breakfast will follow the covey count. The workshop teaching session will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Biologists for MDC and Quail Forever will discuss optimum timing for CRP mid-contract management practices, promoting wildflowers, food plots, controlling invasive species, and management techniques for boosting quail habitat.

This workshop will be especially helpful to property owners utilizing grants under the federal Conservation Reserve Program for pollinator or wildlife habitat enhancement.

Participants are asked to register for the workshop by Oct. 15. To register, call 660-646-6220, Ext. 3 or 660-542-3361, Ext. 3.

To reach the workshop site, travel west from Bogard on Route W for three miles. Go north on County Road 201 for one mile. Parking is available on the west side of the road and signs lead to the workshop site.
