IRON COUNTY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has named Sarah Ettinger-Dietzel as a conservation agent for Iron County. She joins the ranks of Missouri conservation agents after graduating from the most recent MDC Conservation Agent Training Academy class.
Ettinger-Dietzel graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology and a Master of Science degree in Natural and Applied Science. She began her career with MDC volunteering in the Outreach and Education division, then spent five years with MDC’s fisheries division, and another two years working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service before becoming a Missouri conservation agent.
Conservation agents are licensed peace officers of the State of Missouri who are charged with enforcing the rules of the Wildlife Code of Missouri and other state and federal laws. The duties of a conservation agent vary with the season. During warmer months an agent may check fishing permits and creel limits or catch someone fishing through illegal methods. Duties related to hunting generally occur in the colder months, with patrol and stakeouts as a normal part of the job. Agents also have many duties in the areas of wildlife, fisheries and forestry management. Ettinger-Dietzel said MDC is a perfect fit for her career.
“MDC’s mission to protect and manage the fish, forests and wildlife of Missouri fits with my desire to help provide the best possible experience in Missouri’s great outdoors in a way that is sustainable for future generations,” she said. “As a conservation agent, I hope to help achieve these goals and values together with the Iron County community.”
