KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free youth workshop on the basics of fly tying, 1 – 5 p.m., Jan. 15, at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) office, 56187 Missouri Highway 6 in Edina.

MDC invites youth ages 12 – 18 to register for this free clinic that will cover how to tie three basic flies using specialized equipment, and how to present the various flies to improve the chances of catching fish with them. MDC will provide all necessary equipment.

Learning to tie flies offers Missourians a way to enjoy the art of fishing during winter months, without having to brave the cold winter weather, by preparing gear for the next fishing trip.

Fishing is a great way for everyone to have fun outdoors, learn about conservation, and make happy memories together. Discover Nature Fishing programs help Missourians gain the skills and confidence to enjoy fishing opportunities on their own.

Seating is limited for this workshop and participants must preregister by calling the MDC office in Hannibal at (573) 248-2530. For more information on Discover Nature Fishing programs, visit short.mdc.mo.gov/Z4y
