COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) in cooperation with the Southern Boone Area YMCA and National Wild Turkey Federation will offer free instruction in the sport of archery to youth ages 6 to 17 years. MDC staff and experienced volunteers will teach basic archery safety, shooting techniques and skills. Youth will practice on a static archery range and then practice their skills on a 3-D walk-through archery trail.
To participate, all youth must attend mandatory safety training on July 7 from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Copper Kettle Restaurant, 508 E. Liberty Lane in Ashland. The Archery Expo will take place on July 8, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Charles Green Conservation Area, 5611 E. Minor Hill Road near Ashland. Lunch will be provided.

“Whether you hunt or shoot recreationally, archery is a great way to get outdoors and discover nature,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Brian Flowers. “Safety skills will be stressed during this basic program.”
Discover Nature programs, such as this workshop, are designed to help Missourians explore nature and master outdoor skills together. This free workshop is open to youth ages 6 - 17 years, accompanied by an adult parent or guardian.
