MDC invites women to learn to canoe and fish on James River Aug. 1

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – If you’re a woman who wants to learn more about canoeing and how to fish an Ozarks stream, be sure to sign up for the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) “Discover Nature; Women’s Canoeing and Stream Fishing” program which is scheduled for Aug. 1. This event, which will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will consist of a five-mile guided float trip down a portion of the James River. The trip will be conducted under the guidance of MDC staff who will accompany floaters and offer on-the-water instruction and assistance throughout the trip. Transportation to and from the river will be provided. Participants will meet at the Missouri Department of Conservation’s Southwest Regional Office, 2630 N. Mayfair Ave., in Springfield.

This event is for women ages 14 and up. If they’re ages 14-17, they must be accompanied by a participating adult. Participants age 16 and over must possess a valid Missouri fishing license. (People who don’t have resident fishing permits are reminded that they also have the option of purchasing a single-day fishing permit.)

Participants are responsible for their own lunch and refreshments. Participants can bring their own fishing equipment or use equipment provided by MDC staff. No alcohol will be permitted.
