St. LOUIS, Mo.—The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and its partners in the Community Stewardship Alliance invite volunteers to help restore St. Louis County’s St. Vincent County Park back to nature at a special volunteer workday event Saturday, Sept. 25. Check-in will begin at 8:45 a.m. and the event will go until noon. Volunteers will cut honeysuckle and treat it with herbicide and hand-pull wintercreeper. Eliminating these two invasive, non-native plants will help improve habitat for wildlife and beautify the park for people.
Vincent County Park is located at 7335 Saint Charles Rock Road. After entering the park, volunteers will turn right at the first road and follow it until it ends at a parking lot. There will be signs posted with arrows for directions.
Participants should come dressed for the weather and bring their own water and bottle to the event. Work gloves and tools will be provided.
The event requires preregistration online at https://short.mdc.mo.gov/ZCU. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 26.
As this is an in-person activity, MDC asks all participants to observe current local COVID-19 social distancing and masking guidelines. Bringing and wearing face coverings is encouraged when appropriate.
The Community Stewardship Alliance, a collaborative partnership led by the Open Space Council, is a new conservation program intended to provide volunteer leadership to restore and maintain the natural areas within St. Louis County.
