MDC invites people to make holiday crafts at programs in December

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Holiday ornaments can come from the backyard as well as a box.

People can learn how to transform pine cones, twigs, and other items from nature into holiday ornaments they can take home at three free programs coming up in December. At all three free programs, all materials will be provided. Families can bring bags to take their ornaments home in. Here’s a schedule of these upcoming events:

Branson: On Saturday, Dec. 7, people will use items from nature to make holiday ornaments at “Nature Art: Nature Holiday Crafts.” This free event will be 10 a.m.-noon at MDC’s Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center. The Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center is part of MDC’s Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery and is located at 483 Hatchery Road on the west end of Lake Taneycomo near Branson. Joplin: On Saturday, Dec. 7, people will be using pine cones and other items from nature to make holiday ornaments at the “Nature Art: Natural Holiday Crafts” event at MDC’s Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center. No registration is required for this program, which is 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and is open to all ages. The Shoal Creek Center is located at located in Joplin at 201 W. Riviera Drive.

Springfield: MDC’s Springfield Conservation Nature Center will have its holiday crafts program on Saturday, Dec. 14. No registration is required for this program, which is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and is open to all ages. The Springfield Conservation Nature Center is located in southeast Springfield at 4601 S. Nature Center Way.
