St. CHARLES, Mo.—Nature has inspired art since the dawn of humans. Pre-historic paintings of animals have been discovered in caves that date back more than 40,000 years. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is giving artistic types an opportunity to tap into their own painting muse at a special Paint Night event Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 6-8 p.m. at the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area in St. Charles.
It’s a chance to discover the next Salvador Dali of deer, or Renoir of whitetails, as visitors try their hand at panting one of Missouri’s largest herbivores. Enjoy a fun night out with friends or a significant other while combining art with nature. Participants will utilize chalk paint on wood to create images of white-tailed deer that they can take home when finished.
Artists can work from deer silhouettes of their choice that they will transfer to the wood. MDC naturalists will assist participants through the process, so the class will be suitable to all experience levels. All materials needed for the project will be provided at no charge.
During the class MDC naturalists will put on an educational presentation about white-tailed deer in Missouri. Participants are welcome to bring their own snacks or non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy during the nature-themed paint party.

The August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area is in St. Charles on Highway D, about two miles west of Highway 94.
