KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites hunters to an Effective Wingshooting Workshop in Kirksville Oct. 7. The program will begin at 8 a.m. at the MDC Northeast Regional Office, 3500 S. Baltimore Road in Kirksville and then will move to nearby Big Creek Conservation Area.
This FREE workshop will help migratory and upland bird hunters improve their hunting skills with non-toxic shot. Topics covered in the program will include how to select the best ammunition and choke combination for hunting, how to improve shooting skills, general information on the latest non-toxic shotgun ammunition, how to improve range and distance estimation skills, and how to properly pattern shotguns.
“This program gives waterfowl and upland bird hunters an opportunity to enhance their shooting skills before the season begins,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Rob Garver. “Becoming a better shot will lower the wounding loss rate, ensuring the continuation of hunting for years to come.”
Participants should bring their hunting shotguns and choke tubes, if applicable, non-toxic shotgun ammunition they wish to pattern, eye and ear protection, lunch, and a stool or chair. Clay targets, 12- and 20-guage non-toxic practice ammunition will be provided.
