MDC to Host Women’s Waterfowl Hunting Clinic

Puxico Mo -- The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a waterfowl hunting clinic designed specifically for women. It will involve training on Oct. 3 followed by a duck hunt some time during duck season.

The Oct. 3 training session will combine classroom and hands-on training in the field. Topics will include the history and biology of waterfowl in North America, waterfowl hunting equipment, regulations, waterfowl identification and wingshooting techniques. Lunch and equipment will be provided to participants.

The hunt will team participants with local waterfowl hunting guides on privately owned and managed waterfowl hunting areas near Duck Creek Conservation Area. The hunt will probably take place during November or December. The participants will coordinate the scheduling of their hunt with their guides.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and are required to purchase the appropriate hunting permits. A $25 pre-registration fee must be included with applications. This payment will be returned to the participants at the training session on Oct. 3.

Applications and pre-registration fees should be delivered to MDC’s Southeast Regional Office in Cape Girardeau by Sept. 17. Applicants will be notified of the results of the selection process immediately after Sept. 17. If the event is not filled by Sept. 17, applications will be accepted after this date.

Any applicant born on or after Jan. 1, 1967 must complete a Hunter Education Course or purchase an Apprentice Hunter Authorization in order to attend the event.
