Trenton, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold a prescribed fire workshop at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, at the enclosed shelter house at Crowder State Park. Prescribed burns use fire as a tool to help manage unwanted vegetation, increase cattle forage and boost native plants that benefit wildlife.

The workshop is free. Pre-registration is required by April 8. Contact Scott Roy at 660-359-5685, ext. 114. Materials, refreshments and lunch will be provided.

A hands-on demonstration burn will be held after the classroom session if weather conditions permit. Participants should bring leather gloves and wear leather boots.
MDC staff will present information on fire's role in ecology, fire behavior, prescribed fire benefits, proper timing and conditions for burns, equipment, safety, organizing burn teams and developing burn plans.

Land managers can find more information on prescribed burns to boost native plants and wildlife at mdc.mo.gov/your-property/fire/prescribed-fire.
