MDC to host free Discover Nature — Fishing event May 13

Sedalia, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a Discover Nature — Fishing and Outdoor Skills Family Event 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, at the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club. This free event will be a good opportunity to learn about fishing and other outdoor skills. Beginners are welcome.

The Discover Nature — Fishing portion will cover fishing tackle, how to tie knots, how to cast, how to bait a hook, and how to properly handle fish. There will also be an opportunity to go fishing on the lake at the club. Participants wishing to keep fish they catch should bring a cooler with ice. Other outdoor skills taught will include archery, rifle shooting, shotgun shooting, and fish cleaning and cooking.

Pre-registration before May 3 is required for this program, and space is limited so participants should register early. Youths, ages 15 and under, must be accompanied by an adult. Lunch and ammunition for the shooting events will be provided.
