WINONA, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is celebrating 80 years of serving nature and you. Missouri’s Ozarks are steeped in a rich history and culture encompassing our state’s forest, fish and wildlife. MDC is celebrating this legacy with a traditional pie supper and historical film viewing at the Vann School House located at the Twin Pines Conservation Education Center, Thursday, Oct. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m.
“This will be an open house format where the public can get information and provide feedback on conservation programs,” said Skyler Bockman, manager of Twin Pines.
A big part of this event is appreciating the culture of the Ozarks, which is perfectly celebrated in the form of a traditional pie supper, Bockman said.
MDC Director Sara Parker Pauley will share insights on MDC’s history, conservation priorities, and challenges on the horizon at 6 p.m. Local community leaders will also make remarks. MDC staff will be present to answer questions and take comments from attendees.
Attendees are encouraged to give feedback on department regulations, infrastructure, strategic priorities, and statewide and local conservation issues.
"Citizen involvement and participation have always been important to the Department of Conservation,” said Conservation Commissioner Dave Murphy. “Whether through gathering input from hunters on deer season regulations, or hikers and birdwatchers on how a conservation area should be managed, we value public input. We want to hear from you."
No registration is required for this free event. The first 80 attendees at each open house will receive special gift items from MDC.
