MDC congratulates MoNASP 3D State Tournament winners

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) in partnership with the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation hosted the second annual MoNASP 3D State Tournament at the new Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Linc recreation center in Jefferson City April 1. This year’s tournament drew 349 archers in grades 3-12 from 38 schools around the state.

MDC’s Education Outreach Coordinator Eric Edwards, who coordinates MoNASP, said this year’s tournament was larger than last year.

“This tournament continues to grow, and I expect it to keep growing,” he said. “I think 3D archery is drawing in kids who like to hunt, and even those who don’t have the opportunity to hunt, because you get to shoot replica animal targets, and it’s not easy.”

All archers shot at 3D replicas of six North American game animals: white tailed deer, turkey, ram, coyote, bear, and antelope. The targets were placed at unknown distances, with the farthest being around 15 yards.

“The archers really have to know where to place their shot. Unlike the bullseye targets, the scoring rings on 3D targets are almost impossible to see at the distance we shoot,” Edwards said.

Top Tournament Scores

The top overall archer this year was Carl Junction senior Sam Sisk, who shot an impressive score of 291 out of 300. He also won the Individual High School Male Division.

“Congratulations to Sam Sisk for being the top archer of the 3D MoNASP State Tournament. Sam shot a very impressive score at this year’s tournament,” Edwards said. “Shooting at 3D targets is never easy.”
