SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation congratulates former Missouri Conservation Commissioner Chip McGeehan on his recent induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame for his work in conservation. McGeehan was one of numerous inductees at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame first Outdoor Sports Luncheon presented by the Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr. Pepper Bottling Company at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Springfield on Feb. 26.

“It’s a great day for conservation when the hard work and dedication of a member of our conservation family is honored with such a prestigious award,” said Conservation Commission Chair Don Bedell. “Chip has a heart and passion for conservation—in Missouri and around the world—and he was pivotal in pushing big conservation priorities forward during his tenure on the Missouri Conservation Commission.”

A 1968 graduate of Jefferson City High School and 1972 graduate of the University of Missouri, McGeehan served as an MDC commissioner from 2005 to 2011. After being appointed by then-Gov. Matt Blunt, McGeehan championed the re-introduction of elk into the state’s wildlife population. Additionally, McGeehan oversaw the development of habitat of Missouri’s black bear population. He also oversaw the beginning of MDC’s very successful Discover Nature Schools nature-education program and MDC’s Missouri National Archery in the Schools Program (MoNASP). McGeehan also is an avid bow hunter who has traveled to Alaska, Africa, Sweden, and across the United States. McGeehan lives in Marshfield with his wife Teresa.

MDC Media Specialist Francis Skalicky of Springfield was also inducted at the event for his career in sports and conservation-related writing.
