CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center invites all fathers and grandfathers to celebrate Father’s Day with their children at Father’s Day Fishing: Pond to Plate. This free and fun event is Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Fishing is a long-standing tradition in Missouri and it’s very often something we learn from our father or grandfather,” said Sara Turner, manager of the center. “We hope to see lots of memories made at this event.”
Turner said Missouri is a great place to fish and fishing is a great way to celebrate Father’s Day. She said naturalists at the event will teach the children how to tie a knot, bait a hook, cast a line and clean a fish before allowing time for fishing at Cape County Park North.
“There’s also the ‘plate’ portion of this event, so don’t forget we’ll have some fish recipes for people to try, too,” Turner said.
Adult supervision required for ages five to 17. Ages 16 and up must have a valid fishing permit. Reservations for this event begin June 1 by calling the center at (573)290-5218.
