JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. –The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has partnered with Lincoln University (LU) to host a free workshop introducing landowners to the benefits of Timber Stand Improvement (TSI) practices. The workshop will take place 8 a.m. – noon on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Lincoln University’s Alan T. Busby Farm, 5124 Goller Road in Jefferson City.
Forestry professionals from MDC and LU will explain how and when to execute TSI practices in order to have desired benefits for forest health, wildlife, and landowners. The workshop will teach landowners how to develop their own TSI plan for their property, what trees to cut, when, and how, as well as identification and removal-strategies for invasive plants. Weather-permitting, the workshop will include a field visit to show TSI scenarios in nearby forests.
“Timber Stand Improvement is one of the best ways for landowners to manage their woods,” said MDC Resource Forester Cory Gregg. “No matter if you have 10 acres or 100, TSI can improve overall forest health, encourage faster tree growth, and promote wildlife habitat.”
