BUFFALO, Mo. – Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) staff want to remind people that the 671-acre Alfred Newton Gossett Conservation Area in Dallas County is not open to deer and turkey hunting this fall.

The acquisition of the area was announced earlier in the year, but the state’s fall deer and turkey hunting regulations were approved by the Missouri Conservation Commission before the acquisition process (naming the area, surveying boundaries, etc.) was completed. Deer and turkey regulations for all MDC areas must be approved on an annual basis by the Conservation Commission. Individuals wishing to hunt deer on public land in Dallas County currently have six MDC areas (Barclay Conservation Area, Bennett Spring Access, Charity Access, Goose Creek Conservation Area, Lead Mine Conservation Area, Williams Ford Access) where deer hunting is allowed.

More information about the Alfred Newton Gossett Conservation Area can be obtained by calling the MDC Lebanon Office at 417-532-7612. Information about hunting can also be found at https://huntfish.mdc.mo.gov.
