ANABEL, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), along with Quail Forever—Mid-Missouri Young Guns chapter, invites youth to discover nature with a youth pheasant hunt Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Anabel. This program is open to youth ages 11 to 15 and their parents or adult mentors.

Shotguns and ammunition will be available for youths to use on the hunt. They are also welcome to bring their own shotguns.

“There is nothing like the thrill of following a bird dog on the trail of game and firing as pheasants explode into the air,” said MDC Wildlife Management Biologist Chad Smith. “This youth hunt is a great opportunity for those kids who have wanted to try pheasant hunting but didn’t have a good spot to go, or maybe don’t have anyone experienced to take them.”

All youth will be partnered with an experienced volunteer guide from either MDC or Quail Forever.

Pre-registration is required and the hunt is limited to 16 participants. Registration will be accepted through Oct. 9 and all participants will be contacted by Oct. 15. For information or to register, contact Elsa Gallagher at egallagher@quailforever.org.
