SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Jason Dickey has spent two decades enforcing Missouri’s fish, forest and wildlife regulations and a lifetime enjoying the activities those laws protect.
Dickey, a native of Republic, has been named the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Southwest Regional Protection Supervisor. He will supervise conservation agents in 17 counties. Dickey begins his duties July 1 and will be replacing Greg Fritz, who is retiring.
The graduate of Republic High School and Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State) has been a conservation agent since 1996. He initially was a conservation agent in Dallas County and later became a Protection Division district supervisor for Polk, Cedar, Dade and Hickory counties. During his time as a conservation agent, Dickey has received the Outstanding Conservation Agent of the Year award for MDC’s West Central Region, the Torch Award from the North American Wildlife Enforcement Officers Association and Officer of the Year honors from the Association of Midwest Fish and Game Law Enforcement Officers.
When Dickey is not working to protect Missouri’s outdoor resources, he’s often enjoying them. The Bolivar resident also enjoys spending time with his family and he recognizes how important the area’s outdoor resources have been to his family and others.
“For those of us who live and work in southwest Missouri, we know the quality of our fish, forest and wildlife resources,” he said. “We know they’re very important to economic and social values and also to our quality of life. Helping our citizens understand how to safely connect with those resources is vital to conserving them for future generations. That’s a challenge I readily accept as we continue building trust with those we serve to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to appreciate the value of nature.”
