ASH GROVE, Mo. – National Hunting and Fishing Day, which is the fourth Saturday of each September, is a day meant to honor two recreational pursuits that have helped to highlight our outdoor resources.
This year, National Hunting and Fishing Day is Sept. 25 and the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center will honor this day in several ways.
For starters, the Dalton Range will open to the public at 9 a.m., two hours earlier than its usual 11 a.m. opening. There will be free shooting opportunities throughout the day for people who bring their own firearms. These free opportunities will be in the form of one hour on the shooting range, one hour on the archery range, or one round of trap, skeet, or 5-Stand sporting clays at no charge.
Dalton Range staff will also present free seminars at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Both of these clinics are introductory programs for people who want to learn more about firearms and also about the procedures at MDC’s five staffed shooting ranges around the state.
There is no registration for these seminars or any other of the events planned at Dalton Range on Sept. 25. Participants bringing their own firearms are reminded that these firearms should be unloaded when they check in and should remain unloaded until they are ready to shoot in their designated areas (either on the range’s firing line or in the shotgun areas).
